I just recently watched the movie “Happy Gilmore” starring Adam Sandler. In the movie, there`s a scene where Adam Sandler is struggling with his golf swing in the middle of a major tournament. The golf guru of the movie jumps in to help Adam and guess what he says? “It´s all in the hips”.
Why “It`s all in the hips”?
– Fast and strong hip extension is essential part of throwing, jumping, sprinting, kicking, lifting, swinging and punching. If you want to become better in any of these skills, be sure to have solid and explosive power production from the hips.
– The posterior chain, especially glutes and the hamstrings are crucial for effective hip functioning. They are the main muscles for creating fast, snap-like hip extension.
– In almost all sports and physical activities such as breaking, martial arts, golf, tennis, basketball and gymnastics you need to be extremely strong and dynamic in the skills mentioned above.
SSCT: Kettlebell Hip Activation Circuit
This is an hip activation drill that I have found to be really beneficial to be done as a part of my warm up. Use it as a separate workout or before your strength and sports training sessions. The main focus of the circuit is to wake up and activate the muscles needed for effective hip functioning. For example, when your muscles of your posterior chain are properly awakened and ready for action, you are more likely to utilize them in your sports training also.
